And I heart this manicure, too! Like stars, hearts are one of those things I don’t free-hand particularly well. But I am powerless to resist a pink, red and white colour combination (here a pond manicure using Nfu Oh’s cerise-hued jelly, JS24) which always calls to mind very Valentiney things, hearts included. So I went all-in, painted on an allover heart design, and in the end I think things turned out quite well. My husband said they look like nail decals (well, he said “decnals” in the vein of the Trailer Park Boys’ Ricky, a man who mangles the English language with tremendous flair) which is just about the best compliment I can think of. 🙂
Sweet! Lol maybe he’s on to something and they should be called “dec-nails”. Though maybe that’s too similar to “deck nails”..lol..which is a completely different concept.
I have a nail wheel where I worked on practicing pond mani technique. I tended to smear, so not patient enough on dry time I guess. I think I tried to use quick dry top coat to speed process along. How long did this take you, any tips for success?
Totally! Although I am also getting a hardware vibe off the term “dec-nails.” Like something I’d find at Home Depot. 😉
These nails took me about an hour and a half, and most of that was sitting around waiting to dry time. Smears tend to happen any time you’ve got an excess of polish in one place, so if you’re filling in, say, little hearts with white polish, you’ve got to make sure they’re absolutely dry before you go over them with the jelly polish. It happens with topcoat, too, as you’ve no doubt noticed. So one tip I’d have is to not use lots of polish in your design, because no matter how long you let it dry, it will still probably smear and drag. And when you’re going over your design with the jelly, load up your brush – if there’s not enough polish on your brush, it’ll drag off the design beneath.
Aside from that, just time – endless stretches of time waiting for things to dry. That’s why I don’t do pond manis that often!
That’s what I was afraid of..I’m too impatient. Maybe I could build it up over the course of the week…LOL!!!
A little early for Valentine’s Day, no? 😉 Very cute and reminds me of cinnamon hearts (which I’m stupidly allergic to). ❤
More like a little late, given that I’ve seen bags of cinnamon hearts and other stuff at the stores since before Christmas. 😦 Speaking of, I LOVE cinnamon hearts – an allergy would be very upsetting to me. Is it the cinnamon that bothers you, or the “cinnamon”?
Thankfully, it is only an allergy to “cinnamon”! I can pour real cinnamon on my morning oatmeal with impunity. I just can’t eat cinnamon hearts and use Close-Up toothpaste. LOL. I’ll live!
