Fall Fun Series II: The Beginning

Fall Fun Series II Photo

Hello friends, and welcome to year two of the Fall Fun Series!  This year we’re kicking things off with a 15-question Fall tag as a bit of a getting-to-know-you (getting to know all about you!)  All you need to know about me is that I proposed the title Fall Fun Series II: The Revenge: This Time It’s Personal: In 3D! and no one took me seriously.  So All About Autumn it is!  Now onto the questions.

Have you ever participated in a Fall blogging series?  What are you most looking forward to this Fall?

Yes, I have, last year with the Fall Fun Series: Original Sauce.  And it was fun enough that I signed up to do it again this year!  And this Fall, I’m looking forward to celebrating my 13th wedding anniversary with this handsome fella. 🙂

Crisp Fall mornings or cozy Fall nights?

Fall nights, although there’s always a zen-like calm that steals over me when I’m out in the still, slightly foggy morning air.  But Fall nights are the best.  I love leaving the windows open so I can smell my neighbours’ fires and the crunchy leaves that pile up in drifts beneath the windows.

When do you start decorating for Fall?

I actually don’t have many Fall decorations, as all of my autumn decorating power is tied up in my rather elaborate Halloween Town.  But I recently purchased some adorable pumpkin pieces and a few other autumnal accoutrements with a view to blogging – once they’ve fulfilled that purpose, I think they’ll look pretty fantastic decorating my diningroom.

What is your favourite store to visit for Fall goodies?  Share the link!

Always Marie Antoinette in Ottawa, Ontario.  It’s the most beautifully decorated and stocked store I’ve ever had the pleasure of visiting.

If you had to get one Fall-themed image tattooed on your body, what would it be? For extra points, where?

An elaborate, full colour Nightmare Before Christmas sleeve on my right arm.

Did you trick-or-treat when you were younger?  What was the last costume you wore? What’s your dream costume, whether you actually got to wear it or not?

I always trick-or-treated!  Wasn’t even a question of whether I would (not even the year it poured rain and my mom had pneumonia and my dad was on a business trip and my uncle took me around our 1,500-person village as I dashed in and out of his pickup truck.)

I can’t remember the last costume I wore (I’m ashamed to even think it was a pretty lackluster goth girl ensemble) but my dream costume is Snow White.  So thankfully I’ve checked that one off the old Halloween bucket list.  I’m 20 in this photo – just a wee lass. 🙂

Best treat to get in your trick-or-treat bag?  Worse treat to get?

I think the popular answer will be full size chocolate bars, which were indeed quite lovely.  But not having much of a sweet tooth, I preferred bags of chips, which I’d hand off to my parents so they didn’t get crushed to smithereens by the other goodies in my pillow case (oh yeah, I was a pillow case kid, and I’d FILL that mother!) I really dislike licorice, so I’ll say licorice anything is the worst.

Favourite Fall home fragrance?

This is a terrible thing to admit for someone who dabbles moderately to extensively in wax and fragrance blogging, but I don’t have one.  I actually found out last year via the Fall Fun Series that I really don’t care for any of Fall’s traditional scents, particularly pumpkin, which has an unfortunate tendency to give me nasty headaches.

Best body care fragrance for Fall?

Holy cats, it’s this scrumptious scent, Bath and Body Works’ Salted Caramel Apricot. Mmm, this fragrance is great – fruity and warm and rich without being cloying.  I like it very much, wish it came in wax as well.

Must-have nail polish/perfume/makeup for the Fall?

Leaf of Faith from KB Shimmer – it’s autumn’s leaves and pumpkins and cranberry sauce all wrapped up in one bottle.  One of my favourite nail polishes, no matter the season.

Favourite Fall month?

September.  The temperatures are just beginning to cool off, the leaves are just starting to fall and everything looks sort of sparkly.  It’s such a fantastic time of year; I wish we could have year-round autumn.

What’s the weather like where you live?

Is pumpkin spice worth the hype?

I was pretty ride-or-die for pumpkin spice lattes there for a while, but I’ve lost my taste for them as I’ve gotten older.  They make my teeth feel furry!

Favourite Thanksgiving food?

Gravy.  I’d eat cardboard if it was smothered in delicious pan gravy.

Briefly describe your idea of the perfect Fall day.

Well, to bastardize a line from the movie Miss Congeniality, I’ll say October 3rd, because it’s not too hot, it’s not too cold – you just need a light jacket! 😉

This year the blogs participating in the Fall Fun Series will be posting every Saturday from now until the end of November.  Please join us as we decorate our homes, talk about our favourite scents, venture about on cool outings and plan for Halloween.

  1. Congrats on your upcoming 13th anniversary! Hubby and I will be celebrating our 9th in October.
I just love your beautiful Snow White costume and your princess pose to boot. 🙂 It’s great that your family always went above and beyond to make Halloween special for you. I don’t think I ever got potato chips on Halloween, hmmm…
That tattoo sleeve would be quite an undertaking but I’m sure it would be amazing!
Unfortunate about your nose’s aversion too pumpkin scents; that must make this time of year a bit more complicated. I really need to sniff Salted Caramel Apricot; it sounds divine!
I have a KB Shimmer polish really similar to yours, I think it’s called Leaf Me Alone.
I remember discussing the furry PSL teeth last year, haha. I totally agree, but I still drink them.

    • Thanks, Amanda, and a happy upcoming anniversary to you, too! Love those KB Shimmer polishes – I did some cranberry sauce nails (with lumpy can rings!) with Leaf of Faith, and it was awesome. It’s very seasonal, but gorgeous. Not sure if I’ve seen Leaf Me Alone, but their polishes are pretty well universally awesome – I’m sure it’s beautiful.

  2. Aww, congrats on your upcoming anniversary. What a special milestone! I wonder to myself as much as I love fall why me and my husband didn’t get married in the fall. Instead we got married in the freezing winter! Lol.
I’d say the weirdest thing we probably got trick-or-treating was tooth brushes/floss (we had two dentist in town) or apples and oranges. Though we did have a woman who would hand out hot dogs, chips, cookies, cokes, candy the whole nine yards at her place. And a sweet older woman who would take the time to make homemade popcorn balls for the town.
My grandma was known for her Spook Registry. Every year if you trick or treat at her house she has you just sign her registry to show you visited and I think she has kept that log since like.. oh I don’t even know.. I know over 25 years or more because people that were kids would bring their kids and show them their name when they signed and trick or treated. She also hands out homemade ‘puppy chow’ so the town loves stopping by her place, she’s very well known and gets a lot of traffic lol.

    • The winter is a gorgeous time to get married – a girl I used to know in high school got married on Christmas Day, if I’m not mistaken, in a huge snowstorm. It was very atmospheric, and unbelievably cold-looking! The Fall has definitely become THE time to get married, though – used to be the summer, but the weather is so hot and unpredictable now, I can’t blame people for hedging their bets a bit with autumn (although it also has its fair share of rain, and sometimes snow; it did a bit of both on my wedding day.)

Your grandma’s Spook Registry is one of the cutest things I’ve ever heard of – how adorable is that?! And she still has it? That’s the sweetest, I love it. 🙂 I love the people who go gung ho and decorate their house to the nines or set up an elaborate haunted house on their front lawn or keep a log book of their trick-or-treaters. So charming. 🙂 Puppy chow is also the best – hope she doesn’t mind ever-so-slightly overgrown trick-or-treaters showing up on her doorstep!

      • Oh yes, she still keeps it to this day. It’s just this old HUGE book, almost looks Halloween like just on account of how old it is since its showing its age lol. The more the merrier in her eyes, she is just happy to see everyone so of course she even makes bags for the adults and for the smaller kids she does candy and gummies since she doesn’t want to risk giving it to anyone with a peanut allergy.

      • Just when I thought the whole thing couldn’t get cuter or more considerate, then she goes and has allergy-free baggies for the afflicted munchkins and treats for the adults – your grandmother is the best! Years ago I was out in the neighbourhood where I grew up just taking a walk with my parents and my husband, watching the trick-or-treaters, and we were called over to this one house where they were handing out little plastic glasses of wine and cider to the adults, even if you didn’t have trick-or-treaters with you. It was totally awesome. 🙂

      • Say whu now? That’s so funny – just yesterday I was going to swing by and take a peek, see if they had changed their minds. Going to check it out now (oh my, danger, danger.) Thanks for the heads-up!

      • Jessica, you terrible enabler, I’m completely blaming you for the 24 ST clamshells that made their way into my cart yesterday and which I clearly have no responsibility for purchasing whatsoever! 😉

In all waxy seriousness, however, thank you for the heads-up on the Canadian shipping thing – I wouldn’t have known. Really looking forward to getting my loot – mostly a lot of of the scary movie ones. 🙂

      • Love it lol!!! Oh my goodness I am sooooo excited for you!!!! 😊😊😊😆😆 Can’t wait to see what all you picked out and that you will finally be able to get your hands on st goodness! Yay!

    • I *just* missed the darn sale – isn’t that always the way? But I actually rarely go to BBW, so I wasn’t aware. But I’m all coupon’d up now and in need of reinforcements on the Salted Caramel Apricot goodies, so I think there’s a repeat visit in my immediate future. 🙂

  3. Hey there Mrs. Halloween, showing off the wedding photo, whoop! Just speaking with someone yesterday, who was attending a barn wedding today, and told me barn weddings are the trend. I thought, Sandra was way ahead of the times:)
Marie Antoinette’s has to be the home decor nirvana. Gotta find a semi-local equivalent. An NBC sleeve sounds intense, but even if you never do it, I’m sure the design in your head is stunning. Your fragrance and nail color look so cheery, fall with a twist. And Yess, I remember the furry teeth drink convo from last year, to channel Mommie Dearest “NO FURRY TEETH DRINKS EVER!”

    • I love that photo, so I will drag it out whenever I can – we look cute (dancing to Adam Sandler, actually.)

And actually, since amending my diet to cut out a lot of extraneous sugar, I find things just massively, ear-splittingly sweet now. I can’t even imagine what I’d do with a PSL at this point – I suspect I might find it pretty gross, or at least even grosser than I already did (and man, I used to drink BUCKETS of the things; I was totally that Pumpkin Spice Girl.)

      • Lol, Adam Sandler, you looked really happy. Never been that girl, but I might react the same way to peppermint mochas I used to love. I ordered some mint hot cocoa, so we’ll see soon.

      • I got a PSL today, special Labour Day trip. I haven’t had a coffee shop coffee in months, and I haven’t had a Pumpkin Spice Latte since last year. Furry teeth or no, it’s quite yummy. Mmm, peppermint mochas – I had a friend that was mental for them. I figured one day he’d just start mainlining them.

  4. I hope you guys have a beautiful anniversary this year! Loved your Snow White costume. You make a lovely one.

I am going to need that KBShimmer polish in my life. Writing it down.

Thank you for your gorgeous graphic and photo for the series. I love it.

  5. I can’t even envisage what I’d do with a PSL at this point – I funny I might rule it pretty vulgar, or at least even vulgarer than I already did (and piece, I used to swallow BUCKETS of the things; I was totally that Pumpkin spiciness Girl. ?
