Two years ago, for our 13th Halloween wedding anniversary, we went to Disney World on a super spontaneous, ultra last minute trip and rode the Haunted Mansion 13 times in one day. Last year, for our 14th, we dressed up like Tyler Joseph, the lead singer of twenty one pilots, and bombed around the Magic Kingdom during Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween party.
This year we listed our condo for sale. And it rained. A lot.
Okay, wait, back to the condo part. “But hey, wait,” you may be saying to yourself. “Didn’t you just renovate your condo? And wasn’t it kind of hell?” And the answer would be yes to all of those queries – we did just finish it, and it was its own very special kind of hell, but it was time to move on. Onwards and upwards and outwards! In fact, here’s the tour video our agency shot; hope you like the place. 🙂
Anyhow, in light of that bit of major adulting (lord, how I HATE that term) we’re having a pretty low key anniversary – regrettably no Disneying this year. 😦 Instead we went to the lumber yard for some last minute “I’m selling my house” items and ate sausages and veggie dogs, standing up in the end-of-October drizzle, in the parking lot. It actually wasn’t terrible – this guy certainly looks pleased with himself!
But because I can’t ever let the opportunity pass to look backwards in fondness at my life, I created this little video for our YouTube channel, Park or Perish!, about the year we rode the Mansion 13 times in one day. Two years on, it remains pretty well the coolest thing we’ve ever done, and I wish with all my blackened heart and soul we were there today. This fun little video will have to suffice for now. Happy Halloween, friends, and happy 15th to us.
Riding the haunted mansion 13 times in one day is achieving real life goals in my opinion!
Ha, thank you! I certainly consider it one of my life’s Best-Ofs! Next time – and there will be a next time – I film the whole thing!
Aww shucks, don’t be bummed! Look how happy Will looks! And let’s face it, after that 13x ride anniversary, almost anything else you can do will fall short! Best of luck with the sale and the house hunt!
Hey, so guess what? We bought a house. In Kanata, the Katimavik area. Old Kanata, but not oldest Kanata (big priorities here, but it’s a 10 minute walk to Taco Bell!) It’s bonkers and stressful, but in a good way, I think. Thank you for your kind anniversary wishes, BTDubs – been an odd start to our 15th year!
Yayyyy, congratulations!!!! That’s a nice area! We almost bought there too – it was between a place there and our current one in Bridlewood! Hi, almost-neighbour! Maybe we’ll meet soon! Also, proximity to Taco Bell is huuuuge!
Holla, Kanata styles! Actually, I’m not sure why we hadn’t looked there before we saw this particular house. Everything, from the house to the neighbourhood, was more in keeping with what we were looking for. Do you like where you live? I’ve always lived in the west end of the city. Even when I was living downtown, I was on the western side, around Elgin. And except for a high school boyfriend who lived out by Place D’Orleans, the eastern quarter of the city may as well not even exist to me. Didn’t love Barrhaven when I bought new out there – oh, wow – 20 years ago. In fact, just about a month ago my mom and I drove out to see an open house in older Barrhaven, and just halfway out there along that massive stretch of Greenbank I was like, “Nope, not going to happen” and “Did it always take so long to drive out here?!”
Oh, with all due respect to whoever lives there, we feel the same way about Barrhaven! We go out there to visit an aunt sometimes, and it feels like a vast expanse of nothingness for a while.
We were very opposed to living in Kanata, tbh, and it took us a while to get over it even after we moved. We still hope to move back “into the city” if/when we can afford to. That said, there are definite perks to being here, especially with an outdoorsy little toddler!
The video was so fun to watch and that trip sounds like a blast! Quite a life goal you smashed there too ;)) I hope you had a lovely anniversary this year even if it didn’t include an impromptu theme part trip … and wow it must have been quite a decision to sell your condo! With all of the trouble you went through, I can understand why you need to get away from it though XD
I hope you find a perfect new place!

Thank you so much! And I’m so sorry I haven’t responded to your kind comment (thank you, we did have an okay, if weird, anniversary this year; it wasn’t dressing up like TOP (what is?) but it sufficed) but things got very busy last week – we bought a house! Like, an actual house with a backyard and all the responsibilities that come with it! It’s kind of a very big deal, and we’re excited, but wow, what a lot of work. Looking forward to sharing our new digs with you. 🙂
