Hello Kitty nails! And the third design I’ve attempted from this cute instructional book, Hello Kitty Nail Art by Masato Kojima. I think this manicure turned out rather well, don’t you?
I actually really like following these sorts of tutorials from time to time. I have a tendency to fall into ruts of style sameiness where I’ll lean on one colour palette or a single design type time and time again. Guides and tutorials (particularly this one; it’s a very nicely laid out book) always present some neat options I hadn’t considered, like adding sparkle to just one nail, or the cute negative space cutouts at the base of my cuticles. A very pretty Kitty, indeed!
We met Stitch, the Elvis-worshiping, ukulele-playing little alien from Lilo & Stitch, on our Christmas trip to Disney World, and it was one of the very best moments of our entire fantastic vacation. Stitch is a scampy little troublemaker under the very best of circumstances, but he was extra sassy during this character meet-and-greet, briefly bro-ing down with my husband before dismissively RASPBERRYING him in favour of giving me hugs and licks and kisses. 🙂
And I don’t look like I mind this one bit (because I don’t!) but I can’t say the same for my husband, who was seriously side-eyeing this amorous little bugger putting the moves on his wife! Not to worry, sweetie, I’m not looking to trade one barely controllable, blue-garbed weirdo for another. 😉
I think this manicure turned out so well! I like to think I was inspired by Stitch’s little crush, because he actually sort of looks like himself here and not like some sort of hideous mutant creature. Progress! And we couldn’t get out of the parks without picking up a couple of items in Stitch’s furry blue likeness, including these cute socks (can’t EVER have too many novelty socks, in my estimation) and a tiny clip-on Stitch, right, who rode around on my husband’s backpack for a few days. Today his magnetized claws cling to the front of our fridge. The slightly larger Stitch plush was a thoughtful gift from an alien-loving friend (thanks, Rocky!)
Keep your eye on this frighteningly fun Halloween mani or it’ll keep its eye – or eyes, plural – on you. 😉
As Hurricane Irma batters the Gulf Coast and beyond, a dear blogger friend who lives in Florida is riding out the storm the only way she seems to know how – with a lot of optimism, hope and creativity. These are traits she apparently passed on to her two daughters, who – stuck at home by order of closed schools and storm prep – are coming up with their own creative ways of passing the time, such as whipping up these adorable egg carton narwhals. Their goobery, slightly blank expressions, noggins full of glitter and toothpick horns are the cutest things ever – puts my childhood egg carton caterpillars to shame!
So with thanks to Savanna and Scarlette for putting a big smile on my face (and for sharing this photo) I thought I’d (hopefully!) return the favour with these goofy narwhal nails, extra glittery. 🙂 Thinking of you and yours, Julie, and hoping for nothing but the best.
Bahahahahahaha! There’s no such thing! Fellow cat lovers, I don’t know about your fickle felines, but when my cat starts going off, it’s about the furthest thing from measured as you can get. We’re talking meows (also mews, rrawows and merows) that break the sound barrier. It’s kind of insanity-making!
These cats at least seem to be taking a more measured response to life. I purchased this adorable little set of ceramic measuring cups from ModCloth years ago, but I see these best-seller kitties are still available on their website. I’ve actually never used them for their intended purpose, as I figure the first time I do I’ll snap somebody’s tail off on the edge of the sugar canister, but they’ve been a cute decorative item, lined up (or stacked and leaning) on my kitchen window.
And so in keeping with the decorative spirit of these measuring cups, I decorated my nails with some matching kitties. Cute!
After posting a tutorial of my own yesterday, I thought it was high time to tackle another manicure from a Hello Kitty nail art book I was gifted over the holidays. The first mani of the book was a classic Kitty desgin – red and white polka dots, yellow-nosed and red bow’d Kitty.
The second design of the book keeps things similarly simple, this time introducing bold horizontal stripes in the classic combo of black and white, with just the barest hints of candy floss pink and glittery gold accents. Another easy tutorial to follow, resulting in a very pretty Kitty, indeed!
Cherry blossoms, to be specific, although again, unseasonably warm temperatures notwithstanding, we’re still a long way off from the trees even beginning to think about blossoming.
Seriously, though, WHAT is up with the weather lately? It’s so beautiful! And now I’m afraid that the more I call attention to it, the sooner it will end and we’ll be back to snow, so shutting up right the heck now!
