New Year, Old Polish

It's a Trap-eze! BottleHappy New Year, polished peeps! I thought we’d take things nice and slow today for those of us who woke up feeling less than human (what is that furry stuff stuck to the roof of my mouth?) or possibly with our heads in the toilet (really, Grandma, I thought you could hold your cups a bit better than that) with a simple swatch of a favourite glittery polish, China Glaze’s It’s a Trap-eze! Released in 2012, It’s a Trap-eze, a mix of rainbow hex glitter in a milky white base, was one of the first polishes I ever considered highly covetable, and I stalked it from pillar to post (or from stocklist to stocklist) until I eventually lucked out and nabbed my very own rainbow-spackled bottle from the fine folks at Nail Polish Canada. It’s a Trap-eze! is so much fun, one of those real party-in-a-bottle nail polishes, and I’ve never regretted adding it to the Finger Candy stash (except for that one rather ill-advised frame manicure, but I promised we’d never speak of that again, and so we won’t!) 😉It's a Trap-eze! Sparkle and Shine

Sparkle and Shine

I couldn’t sleep last night, and so I found myself awake after midnight trying to come up with a not-too-taxing bit of nail art that would inspire me to drift off to dreamland (usually a totally botched manicure that causes me to throw down my detail brushes and stomp away from my work area in disgust.) Failing that, I also would have accepted getting too close to the fumes wafting off my top coat and passing out face first onto my desk. Hey, when you really need to sleep and you just CAN’T, you’ll start looking at anything as a miracle cure.

So that’s the story of how these nails came about, a simple, sparkly star design over top of one of my favourite glitters, China Glaze’s It’s a Trap-eze! Looking at them from a bit of a distance, they almost look like starfish resting atop a shallow seabed encrusted with oceanic treasures. Or something. 🙂

Frame It

Frame It

Filed under “better late than never,” these nails represent my fourth, and final, submission in the January N.A.I.L. Challenge. And yes, I realize it’s now February, which makes this tardy manicure quite apropos – I was sick for the majority of January and every single thing I did was ever so slightly behind schedule, so this mani should prove to be no exception. That the challenge is now closed is besides the point – I’m just glad to get these finished and finally complete something I set about to do this month (right, last month)!

The theme for the final week was border manis (highlighting the edges of your nails.) I chose to go with a framed look, a technique I haven’t done that often and which continues to vex me so. In fact, this is an exact re-do on a manicure I did many months ago and didn’t post out of embarrassment. But I’m pleased to see that these turned out better than expected and certainly better than their predecessors, so up on the blog they go!

Here I bordered my nails with my favourite black, China Glaze’s Liquid Leather, over top of China Glaze’s white-based rainbow glitter bomb, It’s a Trap-eze! Between the solid black outlining and the shimmery, multi-coloured glitter, I think they look quite cartoony.

Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday!

Actually, happy almost-birthday to this blog, which turns two months old in a few days. *Sniff*…they grow up so fast!

So in honour of the little blog that could, I did these festive nails featuring It’s a Trap-eze!, a rainbow glitter polish from China Glaze that makes every manicure look like it’s been dipped and frosted and sprinkled to within an inch of its life. So basically right up my alley!
