In oh so many different ways, but mostly this way, because hey look, check out what’s been going on for the past 36 solid hours!
I should note that these are totally common weather conditions in my city at this time of year. Hell, these are sometimes common conditions at the end of April. But as always (and I am confident I’m not alone in this assessment) I am now done, done, done with the winter. Effing snow globe life is for the birds (or particularly disturbing episodes of Black Mirror.)
So it’s just as well I’m bound and determined to drag out every single springtime polish I own this week, if only to see if all those cheery shades can course-correct my crap weather-induced bad mood. Here I started with KB Shimmer’s Sweet Egg-scape, a pastel glitter bomb that I always think reads a bit more Valentine’s Day than Easter, but to each polish creator their own, you know? And then I topped it with a couple of icy treat nail charms, because we really can’t have anything spring-like around here without covering it in a crisp layer of frost or two inches of frozen slush, now can we? Whoops, so much for reeling in that bad mood…
Neptune nails. Both in terms of inspiration, and also the unbelievably gorgeous base polish I used here, Enchanted Polish’s Neptune.
Also, given The Shape of Water’s best picture win at this past Sunday’s Oscars, it seemed an appropriate time – nay, the only time! – to make this “In love with a fishman” Disney joke. Good lawd, that Triton is jacked! His arms-day routine must be nuts.
Too much? Or bowhere near enough? 😉 The start of 2018 seemed to call for a whole lot of mani, and what’s more than glittery gold and giant, rhinestone-studded nail charms? Happiest – and glitteriest – of starts to the new year, friends.
Well, consider that check and checked, thanks to this dazzlingly festive polish, Ceramic Glaze’s Hong Kong Diva, and a couple of cheerful gingerbread men nail charms from Daily Charme.
This is the part where I usually ask where all the time has gone, and issue a plea for just a few more hours to be added to each day, just until Christmas. Except I feel like I have things pretty well in hand this year. Tomorrow we host my husband’s family for our annual holiday meal; afterwards my parents will stop by to help us clean up the leftovers and indulge in a yearly viewing of Home Alone. Next week I’ve got lunch and donut dates with my parents, and weather pending, a cool evening light show. And I have just a handful of little gifts to pick up, so I’m feeling pretty good about things! Check back with me in a couple of days, though – as things spiral towards Christmas, undoubtedly we’ll all be feeling the pinch.
Also, a macro shot, because this polish is gorgeous! Such a wonderful pick for this time of year – festive, fun and sexy.
I put up our tree today! This is exclamation mark worthy because I’m never so seasonally motivated, particularly when it comes to our tree (we have history.) But we’ve got some fun things planned for later on this holiday season that require a bit of planning right now, and so that’s what I’m doing.
Also, I woke up this morning just feeling festive! So much so, I managed to convince my husband to watch Babes in Toyland, a favourite terrible Christmas movie from my childhood starring Keanu Reeves and Drew Barrymore, while I melted some Christmas Wish-scented wax (pine, peppermint and cookies) and painted my nails with this festive glitter bomb, KB Shimmer’s sELFie. This polish looks so pretty on its own, but I love it topped with this tiny bejeweled nail charm.
These sort of ultra dense, glitter-packed polishes always look fantastic in super macro close-up, and sELFie is no exception – lovely! A fun and festive mani for a fun and festive day.
This cool polish, Lilypad Lacquer’s Rainbows in Space, looks like two totally different polishes depending on whether it’s in the sun or the shade. Under direct light, its bronze micro-shimmer gives it a rich, almost chocolate brown hue, whereas in the shade, it’s a dusky charcoal grey.
And the perfect palette on which to display these silver nail charms from Daily Charme. It’s a little bit of Black Widow mixed with a little bit of Brown Recluse, and it’s Halloween mani perfection.
It’s apparently round-the-clock cocktail hour here at Finger Candy, between yesterday’s fruity strawberry daiquiri nails and today’s bracingly brown Manhattan mani. My grandmother’s drink was a Manhattan – a double Manhattan, actually (once again, Grandma, get down with your bad self!) Me? Well, after a young adulthood steeped in wine coolers and across-the-bridge brew, I don’t actually drink very much any more. Alcohol just doesn’t seem to agree with my old lady constitution (never did – a graph depicting my response to alcohol is pretty much a straight up and down line; I’ve been known to go from “WOOOOOOO, LET’S GO TO THE BAR!!!” to sprawled out and unconscious in about five minutes flat.)
But there’s something quite alluring about a Manhattan, with a perfect little cherry gleaming out of its clear, brown depths. To get that perfect Manhattan colour, I used a favourite – unfortunately also out-of-production – polish from Nfu Oh, the quite unimaginatively named JS39. I have used this polish in SO many foodie manicures – it makes the perfect lacquered stand-in for caramel sauce, pumpkin spice anything and coffee. Also nylons, but that’s not quite applicable in this situation. Anyhow, drink up – plenty more where this came from (although maybe not; that beautiful bottle is distressingly low, and I’ve no idea where to find another.) Boo to that, but yay to this mani – with its little martini glass and pair of cherries, it’s quite charm-ing. 🙂
