July Band of Bloggers

BOB 2nd photo

As mid-summer approaches, my mind drifts to vacation times, getaways or mini excursions out and about.  One-tank trips.  Parks to explore.

Do you take a summer vacation or do small getaways?  What do you have planned?  If not, what would be your ideal vacation or retreat?  What are your favourite local haunts?  Give us some places to hang out!

No real summer plans this year (or any year; I don’t do summer very well) save just getting through the dang thing.

But!  My dream vacation?  The mere idea of which gets me up nearly every day at the butt crack of dawn to trawl the pool or pound the pavement in the hopes of whittling my arse down to a Doom Buggy-acceptable size?  The dream that is so potent, it practically comes with its own smell?

Disney.  Disney World, actually, classic Orlando styles (don’t get me started on the incongruities of someone who wilts like a pansy in the heat vacationing in central Florida.)  I used to go just about every year with my parents when I was a kid, and indeed, it’s where Mr. Finger Candy and I enjoyed two weeks of blissful – if humid – honeymooning, but we haven’t been in years.

Time to rectify that in a major way.  And we can start with something I have ALWAYS wanted to do, but which my parents – bless their otherwise terrifically indulgent souls – could never quite manage, 13 straight trips through my favourite place on Planet Earth, the Haunted Mansion.  I’m trying not to hype it up too much, or denigrate all of the other very, very important moments that have occurred in my life (graduating university, getting married, owning a home) but I think it’s going to be the very best day of my life. 😉

And not like they weren’t a lot of work or anything, but I’ll be sporting these nails when I do eventually get there, my second go at recreating the Mansion’s iconic Damask wallpaper, complete with eerily shifting eyes.

Haunted Mansion Fingers

I am not going to lie…as summer starts revving up…I am catching myself daydreaming not only about vacation, but also fall scents.  I am sure it may be too early for some and others melt fall scents year round, but I must ask…where are you planning to order your fall smell goods from?  It can be vendor wax, candles, bath and body or perfumes.  Just spill!

Save a pending Sniff My Tarts custom order, 3/4 of which is mint-based (so more winter there) I have no outstanding orders.  But I’ve always wanted to get in on The Bathing Garden’s gore-geous collection of Halloween-themed bath and body care.  I’ve been so impressed with my two orders thus far, and I can’t wait to see what beautifully creepy little items they come up with for the upcoming haunting season.

  1. This mani is so cheerful…I mean scary. I’m totally spooked. I’d want to change the eyes/faces throughout the day to capture the shifting visage. Never been to Disney, quite deprived in that sense, though I’m not really a Disney person. There are some whispers of an upcoming Wizarding World trip, but it’s only in the dream stage.
I’m so looking forward to your rewarding 13 (!) trips through the Haunted Mansion. You will have earned every single one😊

Halloween/Fall collection is the one hole in my TBG order history. Going to rectify that this year I think. But even talk of fall is still too soon for me, still waiting on my TBG summer order!

    • Eh, I’d go with cheerful over scary – if there’s one style I can’t really do, it’s scary. Or lifelike. Verisimilitude (holy schnikey, I spelled that correctly on the first try!)

Oh, a Wizarding World trip would be so phenomenal! I haven’t been since the whole Harry Potter area was put in (also the Simpsons and their new water park) but I’d love to see it, just immerse myself in all that detail work. Also have lunch at The Three Broomsticks. I love that dream – try to elevate it above a whisper.

Speaking of, I was just saying to Jessica, another Disney neophyte, that we may have to rectify that situation. I was joking about a BoB meet-up outside Cinderella’s Castle, but Diagon Alley would also be TOTALLY acceptable. 😉

      • Verisim….okay, now you’re just trying to impress. It worked!😉

I’m down with Diagon. If I’m incurring the travel expense/precious vacation time used, Diagon Alley beats Disney every time. Though IF I did go Disney, I would be the nerd hanging out in Epcot the whole time.

  2. I just love these nails!! Gosh why can’t I have this talent!? Lol
These will be perfect for when you go!! I’m thrilled for you, oh I just can’t wait to see all the fun pictures.

Like Jay, I also am deprived in the Disney department except I am very much a Disney person. So maybe one day! The Haunted Mansion ride sounds incredible. Just recently a few years back got to go to Universal Studios and Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Of course with the new additions I must go back though.
OH, I totally forgot about TBG Halloween collection a few min there.. man I haven’t made my mind up about them yet. Getting it later and all. We will see!

    • Aw, thank you, that’s so nice of you to say. And I hope I get to go soon, too, and I will DEFINITELY have pictures to share with you!

I haven’t been to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter yet, but I’m pretty well versed in my Universal as well. But Universal doesn’t have the Haunted Mansion, which…I’ve got issues, clearly! But oh my gosh, does it ever look fun. Diagon Alley looks INCREDIBLE (I watch these vloggers based out of Florida who go to the parks all the time, so I’m pretty up to date on my amusement park news.) I can’t get over the attention to detail, it’s so fantastic!

I’m always gobsmacked when I meet someone who hasn’t been to Disney – I (quite presumptuously) assumed that everyone’s been there at one time or another. Which is just not possible, because it’s a very exhausting, time-consuming and EXPENSIVE mode of vacation.

We may have to rectify this for you and Jay. BoB meet-up outside of Cinderella’s Castle some day? 😉

  3. Yes!!! Orlando!!! Hope you can come soon!

I love those nails. You know. I have been to Disney quite a few times in my life but I have yet to have a Dole Whip. I think that will be my next indulgence when I get over that way again.

The Bathing Garden does have super cute fall and Halloweenie wax tarts. ❤

    • I hope I can come soon, too! I’ll be one sweating my face off. And all my other parts as well, I think.

Confession time: I’ve never had a Dole Whip either. They look sort of…pointless? I’ve also never been a huge fan of Pina Colada-type concoctions, and it seems quite Colada-adjacent (although I really love fresh pineapple, weird.) I’m totally down to try one, though. Disney’s sort of famous for inexplicably axing their popular snacks, but the Dole Whip has remained a constant.

  4. I’ve only been to Disneyland in CA, but it was loads of fun! I hope you get to take your trip soon.
I can’t believe I almost forgot about TBG’s fabulous fall offerings; I may have to get my hands on some this year.

    • I’d love to go to Disneyland; have never been to your fair state, in fact. I actually think my constitution is a better fit for Cali than the swampy humidity of Florida, but old habits die hard. 🙂 I hope I get to take that trip soon, too.

  5. I watch the vlogs too and it just makes me want to go back even more!! Totally incredible. Of course I feel like I shouldn’t be watching the coverage on the new parks as it might ruin some of the magic but oh well!
Haha well that sounds like an incredible idea! Let’s do it!😎😎
